Pre-arranged airport pickup is one of the simplest ways to make arrival in Burundi easier. This section covers private transfers from Bujumbura Airport (BJM) to city hotels, Lake Tanganyika properties, Gitega, Kibira, Rumonge and other common onward destinations.
What to send before arrival
Share your flight number, arrival date and time, passenger count, luggage needs, hotel or destination, and a reachable WhatsApp number. For late arrivals or larger groups, confirm the vehicle type in advance.
What a well-organized airport pickup looks like
A private airport transfer should be simple: the operator has the passenger name, flight number, arrival date and time, number of travelers, luggage requirements and exact destination before the flight lands. The traveler should have a reachable contact for the driver or operations team. This is particularly useful after a late arrival, for families, business travelers, groups and visitors continuing directly into a multi-day tour.
Flight delays and arrival changes
Flight times can change. If your airline updates the schedule, send the new information when possible. A transfer arranged against a flight number is easier to manage than one booked only by an approximate landing time. Travelers arriving on separate flights should say so clearly rather than assuming the group can be collected together.
Choose the right vehicle
Passenger count alone does not determine vehicle size. Large suitcases, camera equipment, sports bags and group luggage can require more space than expected. Tell the operator about unusual luggage in advance. For intercity transfers, comfort and luggage capacity matter more than squeezing the maximum number of people into a vehicle.
Airport pickup can become the first tour day
When an arrival is early enough, the vehicle can continue to a city visit, Lake Tanganyika, Gitega or another destination. For a late arrival, it is usually better to go directly to the hotel and start the itinerary fresh the next morning. The right choice depends on actual landing time, immigration and baggage collection, daylight and the distance of the onward journey.
